Centre clears entire GST compensation dues till May 31 by releasing Rs 86,912 cr

The central government announced on Tuesday that it has released a sum of Rs 86,912 crore to cover the full quantity of GST remuneration due to states until May 31, 2022. The decision was made to aid nations in trying to manage their resources and improving that their programs, particularly capital expenditures, are completed successfully during the financial year, according to the Ministry of Finance.

“This decision was made even though the fact that the GST Compensation Fund only has about Rs 25,000 crore available.” “The balance will be published by the Central area from its awaiting Cess collection,” the ministry stated.

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) was implemented in the country on July 1, 2017, and states were guaranteed compensation for any revenue lost as a result of the implementation of GST for a period of five years under the clauses of the GST (Compensation to States) Act, 2017.

The Compensation Fund released bi-monthly GST recompense to states on time for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 fiscal years.

COVID-19 enhanced the gap with both projected revenue and actual revenue receipt, including a reduction in cess collection, because the states’ protected earnings have been starting to grow at a 14 percent compounded growth rate while the Cess collection has not increased at the same rate.

The above decision has been acknowledged by all of the states. In addition, the Centre has been releasing GST recompense from the fund on a regular basis to cover the shortfall. Monthly gross GST accumulation including Cess has been showing notable growth, according to the ministry, thanks to coordinated efforts by the Centre and states. (ANI)
