Ecological Devastation

Ecological Devastation – Any change or disturbance to the environment perceived to be deleterious or undesirable. The term itself signifies the declining state of the environment, at the present time you can see rain without monsoon, and breathlessness problems among the people, floods became common in regions which reflects ecological devastation.

Effects of ecological degradation

Environmental degradation is one of the primary causes of diseases, health issues, and long-term livelihood impacts for India as well as the world too. It resulted in weathering, biodiversity loss, soil erosion, drought, and due to human activities and the production of methane resulted in acid rain and disbalance in climatic conditions and the environment.

Ecological Devastation

Causes of ecological devastation

The major causes of environmental degradation are modern urbanization,

industrialization, overpopulation growth, deforestation, etc. The population is an important source of

development, yet it is a major source of environmental degradation   Poverty is said to be both cause and effect of environmental degradation. The process of urbanization also contributes to ecological devastation. People set up heavy industries which itself is the major reason behind this devastation. Not only individuals but yes, globally countries are responsible for this devastation of beautiful nature given by god.

You can see how the climate became more stable and balanced in lockdown various endangered species have been spotted but after unlocking humans again start torturing the ecology which resulted in flood, drought, and poisonous air to breathe.

Effects of ecological devastation

The effects of environmental degradation are very hazardous and is a big threat to humanity. Loss of biodiversity is the main effect of environmental degradation. the main cause of loss of biodiversity is deforestation global warming overpopulation and so on. Another and most important result of ecological devastation is ozone layer depletion. the main reason for ozone depletion is the emission of chlorofluorocarbon hydrofluorocarbon and volatile organic compounds. these are the substances found in vehicular emission industrial processes and many more.

Global warming is another result of environmental degradation.   the illness and premature death in megacities of Calcutta Chennai Delhi Mumbai have risen significantly in less than 5 years.

Some other effects of environmental degradation can be, an increase in health-related problems in human beings like respiratory problems pneumonia, and asthma. it also pollutes the soil and water.  and even in the cities, the air is contaminated with lead.

 India and ecological devastation

Major environmental calamities in India include land degradation, deforestation, soil erosion, habitat destruction, and loss of biodiversity through various devastation modes like global warming, greenhouse gas, chlorofluorocarbon emission, methane gas emission, pollution, etc.

According to World Bank estimates, between 1995 through 2010, India made one of the fastest progress in the world, in addressing its environmental issues and improving its environmental quality. Still, India has a long way to go to reach environmental quality similar to those enjoyed in developed economies. All the nations came forward and take responsibility to treat or cure the environment like the Paris agreement, the Montreal Protocol, Agenda 21, and Rome of the club are the worldwide initiative taken by countries to protect the Earth from degradation and devastation.

Government Initiative to tackle the Ecological Devastation.

Over the years, India has taken several measures to control pollution, and maintain ecological balance such as – The national green tribunal, forest conservation, river and water conservation, compensatory afforestation bill 2016, solar and renewable energy, National clean air program, and green skill development program initiative has been taken by the government even in Delhi we can see the odd-even, promotion of bicycle, red light on Gadi off the program of state government to reduce the global warming and protect the environment.

Conclusion

Now I would like to conclude with the beautiful lines which represent the relationship between the humans and environment. –

Problems of environmental degradation and climate change are not threats to the earth at large. they are challenges to human survival.
