OTT platforms have given people a stage to enjoy their favorite shows without any disturbance or interference and many other advantages. But remember that every coin has two sides so OTT alongside its benefits also comes with the disadvantages. Some of the disadvantages of OTT platforms are as follows:
1. Connectivity issues:
You can enjoy OTT platforms all you want, but once your internet connectivity wavers you have no option to stream it. Everyone faces issues related to connectivity which makes one frustrated. Also, people who don’t have an account or don’t use social media won’t be able to access the content, watch or stream shows they want to. So, not creating an account is basically not being able to watch or stream in the platforms.
2. Spending hefty amounts:
Almost all OTT platforms require subscriptions to watch content and shows. A student may not be able to pay or a senior citizen who is not willing to spend so much amount for shows as such.
3. Cyber Security:
Many vulnerable sites might leak your information. Cybercrime can occur on any platform asking for personal details or bank details.
There are cases where people lose money from their accounts and even the most trustable sites could have a glitch leading to the above.
4. Censorship:
The OTT platforms are independent and not under any government surveillance. These platforms are mostly to attract viewers, so there is no age restriction. There are many series that are above 18 rated which are been watched by the kids without their parent’s knowledge or consent. These contents are unfavorable for kids.
5. Screentime:
Users spend an undesirable amount of time watching shows on the OTT platforms. It leads to procrastination of important work. The increasing screen time may lead to problems in the eyes or pain in the back and the neck.
