World Oral Health Day is an annual global observance holiday held on March 20. The day was created to raise awareness about the importance of good oral hygiene. World Oral Health Day

Today, dentists and oral hygienists use a variety of platforms to educate people about maintaining good oral hygiene and learning about new treatments. On March 20, 2023, the world will celebrate World Oral Health Day 2023. The theme of World Oral Health Day in 2022 was ‘Be Proud of Your Mouth for Your Happiness and Well-Being’.

This year, campaigners hope to inspire change by emphasizing the importance of good dental health for overall health and how it can help you live a longer and healthier life. And it’s something you should do. The primary goal of World Oral Health Day is to encourage different investors to make pledges to promote excellent oral health at the regional, national, and global levels by raising awareness.

Oral illnesses affect many people around the world, but they can be avoided by raising public awareness, educating the public, and disseminating accurate information. Furthermore, this day is observed in order to raise awareness and funds for disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment strategies.

Every National Dental Organization, official and non-governmental institution, as well as the media, are encouraged to participate in efforts to improve oral health at the international and national levels. Early detection, prevention, and treatment of oral illnesses are critical to limiting their impact on the overall health of your body.

  • To lose weight, follow a healthy, low-sugar diet. Too much sugar in the form of sweetened beverages, snacks, and processed foods damages teeth (dental caries), leads to obesity, and causes diabetes.
  • Start a dental health improvement plan. Most cases of tooth decay are caused by sugary diets and other risk factors such as smoking. Keep a consistent oral hygiene routine.
  • Dental decay and gum disease, for example, can have a negative impact on many aspects of one’s life, ranging from personal relationships and self-esteem to academic performance and the ability to collaborate and learn with others. Oral illnesses, on the other hand, can be avoided if a proper oral hygiene regimen is followed on a daily basis.
  • Keep your mouth covered while out and about. Sugar-free gum has been shown to aid in the maintenance of good oral health by neutralizing the acids found in plaque.
  • Discover how to care for your teeth and gums (especially children) Bacteria in your mouth and teeth can cause tooth decay and gaps, so maintaining them is critical.

History

For decades, cultures have emphasized the importance of good oral hygiene, according to ancient Egyptian and Chinese texts. From the use of primitive tools like porcupine quills, fish bones, or feathers to the slightly more advanced use of tree bark, oral health has been essential in all cultures in some form or another.

By the 1400s, people in China were making bristles from cold climate pigs, attaching them to bone or wood, and using them as toothbrushes. During the same time period in Europe, salt was mixed in a solution of brandy and water and used to rinse clean the mouth, followed by rubbing the teeth with a sponge to remove anything stuck between the teeth.

World Oral Health Day

As a result, as advances in oral health were made, there were also cases of a majority of people who did not care about oral hygiene. Diseases that had no cure began to emerge. Traditional herbs were used to treat ailments, but it wasn’t until 1880 that nurses began offering disease prevention prophylaxis treatment.

Dentists soon followed, with specific dental techniques for treating dental and oral conditions. The Federation Dentaire International (F.D.I.) has been the most vocal advocate for increasing public awareness of oral health. Throughout its more than 100-year history, the organization has promoted and emphasized the importance of oral health and hygiene.

Their campaign to raise awareness about the importance of good oral hygiene bore fruit in 2013, with the announcement of the first global-scale day to commemorate World Oral Health Day. Since 2013, each year’s Oral Health Day has had a different theme. The first theme was Healthy Teeth for a Healthy Life, and 2014 followed suit with its own theme.

These themes have all been centered on a single message for the year. They are gradually but consistently increasing people’s awareness of the importance of oral hygiene.
