The country started to work on the plant in 2018 at the SSAB site in Lulea Sweden, where engineers tested the directive reduction of iron ore to make direct reduced iron (DRI)  also called sponge iron.

Lulea in Northern Sweden is only about 100 km away from the Arctic circle and has around 80,000 inhabitants, almost one-third of all people living in Nor rotten province.

The port of Lulea predominantly handles coal, steel and iron ore. It is located on one end of the Scandinavian ore railroad track and with Norway being on the opposite end. 

Steelmaking involves DRI(Virgin Material) and recycled scrap.

The company began construction on a plant for fossil-free pellets. Where fossil fuels will be replaced with biofuel to achieve fossil-free production of iron ore.  The company estimates the plant to cost close to 2 billion Swedish Korean of which 599 million SEK will be given by the Swedish Energy Agency.

First delivery of green steel:-

Sweden has delivered the world’s initial inexperienced steel to Swedish truck maker Volvo AB. However, It will not be out there till 2026.

The steel was created by a venture between a Swedish shaper SSAB energy company Vattenfall, and ore manual laborer LKAB, a technology dubbed HYBRIT.
