Despite the fact that Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have nearly monopolized the Indian streaming market, they were not the first. Local streaming services are available, but they are mostly from media companies and television stations. These services are created to supplement the state of television at the time by experimenting with new channels for a younger and more diverse audience.
1. BIGFlix:
BIGFlix, a movie-on-demand service, was launched by Reliance Entertainment in 2008. It’s the first movie service in India. It lets the users watch and download movies online anytime. Its revenue is derived from monthly subscriptions rather than advertisements.
The site includes a wide range of films, series, and evaluations related to Indian entertainment. Movies in diverse languages are available such as Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Bengali. Furthermore, including genres like action, comedy, drama, and romance.
The movies are streamed in high definition and without commercial interruptions, with the alternative to cancel at any time.
2. nexGTv:
In 2010, Digivive released nexGTv, India’s first over-the-top (OTT) mobile app, which enables users to watch live TV and on-demand content. nexGTv was the very first app to live–stream IPL games on smartphones in 2013 and 2014. But since IPL’s broadcast rights were acquired in 2015, the tournament’s Livestream has facilitated the growth of another OTT platform in India, Hotstar (now Disney+ Hotstar).
3. DittoTV:
Zee Digital Convergence Limited, the digital alliance of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited, launched DittoTV as a video-on-demand platform in 2012. (ZEE). The provider was integrated with ZEE5 on February 15, 2018. It was the best and most popular over-the-top media services TV distribution service, offering LIVE TV and Catch-Up Content to end-users via cell phones, tablets, laptop computers, desktop computers, entertainment boxes, and connected TVs.
These earliest OTT platforms gave birth to many new OTT platforms such as;

· Voot;
· Amazon prime; and many more.
