The world’s highest bridge right after the highest statue is now in INDIA

Chenab river is a major river that flows between India and Pakistan, has a major role in the water supply. It is one of the major rivers in the Punjab region which even includes a treaty signed during the early 70s. The world’s highest bridge in INDIA makes India proud.

Chenab Bridge is under construction. The bridge which is going to connect the root between the highly dangerous district of Jammu and Kashmir. This Bridge is 1315 m long and built at a height of 359 m.

The Northern Railway has Undertaken this extremely Megaproject because Construction over the Chenab Bridge across the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Between the towns of Udhampur in Jammu and Baramulla on the northwestern edge of the Kashmir Valley to create a communication channel that is extremely safe. The world’s highest bridge in INDIA located in Jammu & Kashmir’s Reasi District.

Call for the Bridge?

Traveling around the mountains of Jammu and Kashmir was very difficult and scary for all the people going on tourism. Which brought the urgent need to provide better transportation facilities. By the government of India for the people living there and the tourists who are going there. So the transportation got easier.

The construction of the National Railway project came into light which connect Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India.

This project will complement the construction of various bridges and tunnels along with the route of the Chenab bridges.

Project suspended in 2008 due to various construction but later reviewed.

As again proposed along with the various challenges faced by the locals. The review work was submitted to the railway board and was easily approved in 2009. Followed by the design which was approved in 2012 by the authority.

Challenges during this project

The most challenging situation is that it should not obstruct the flow of the river between India and Pakistan.

After so many deliberations, and taking into account the aesthetics, the economy, and the availability of all the local expertise for the proper construction.

The Chenab bridge was designed as a large single arch steel with an approach viaduct on both sides.

We use technique Viaduct on both sides for Chenab bridge.

With the help of continuous construction number of bearings minimized.

Which is an advantage because it reduces all the maintenance and inspection efforts, and improves the riding quality.

The design is as per the BS codes. With the computation of wind load per wind tunnel.

Salient features of the bridge

  • Chenab Bridge is going to be 35 m taller than the Eiffel Tower.
  • The bridge is 1.315 km long and will have stations at both ends.
  • The Bridge has a design speed of 100 km per hour lifespan of 120 years.
  • As the bridge is over a deep river, for definite reasons, it will have wind which will effect the stability of the bridge.
